Heat Island Effect

EXCESSIVE HEAT IN CITIES

This summer the average temperature crossed the 50°C mark in Delhi and other North Indian Cities. People couldn’t live a minute without AC and energy consumption peaked to 8000MW per day. Severe heatwaves torture the whole cities resulting even in death of poor laborer working under the sun. But is it just the heatwaves that increase temperature to half of boiling point? Or is there something else?

WHAT IS HEAT ISLAND EFFECT?

Heat Island Effect is a phenomena where building materials like asphalt and cement absorb and emit more heat resulting in creation of heat domes. It is as if the affected area is like a hot island with temperature higher than normal.

Heat Island Effect is a dangerous problem affecting every modern city. It leads to excessive energy consumption, poor air quality, and critical health problems.
