Indian Waste Management System is a mimicry of global waste management systems but they fail in our country because of many reasons.
First of all, India’s food and cultural habit differs greatly from western countries. Indian Food is heavily curry based due to which the quantity of wet waste is very high. As a result, the waste mix has low calorific value compared to waste systems in US. This means that waste can’t be segregated easily and most of it is dumped at landfills. While other countries do well with landfill model, landfills in India turn to waste hills and mountains spreading filth and disease.

Like majority of problems in India, Waste Management is also a design problem. Massive is building practical design solutions to understand and solve the unique waste flow in the city. It is developing designs for urban wastebins and working on building citywide waste collection infrastructure by accounting technical as well as cultural aspects.
The Blue-Green logic doesn’t work in India because of high quantity of wet waste.
Widespread litter arises not because of municipal faults but because of low value plastic.
Waste Bin designs are not relevant in Indian spaces because of unique cultural practices.
